Learning to Edit – ACTV
ACTV Video Youth Group Day 4 | 25/11/15
We started the meeting in a circle, as usual – everyone is equal. We all got the opportunity to update the group on how our week has been going, and we shared interesting things we saw on tv or the internet.
Next, we watched the penultimate scene from Antonioni’s “The Passenger” (1975), starring Jack Nicholson. This was exactly the opposite of what we saw last week (Hot Fuzz). This was a six minute (approx.) one-shot, which we learned is really hard to do! The camera slowly, slowly drifts through the bars of the window, showing us what is going on outside and then returning back to the room.
We then learned how to edit, first setting up folders for the footage and editing projects and then starting to work on the interviews we filmed of each other last week.
It was a lot of fun learning how to use the editing program, but it was also quite hard.
Everybody worked hard, and we came together in a circle one more time to summarize what we learned today and to look ahead toward coming weeks.
