ACTV Video Jerusalem Youth Group Day 2 | 28/10/15
We had a lot of new participants, and the air was filled with anticipation. Volunteers prepared strips of paper for today’s activities and, of course, helped prepare veggies, tea and coffee.
To start with, we went around the circle sharing our names and favorite actors, films, and TV shows. Next, we played the “Eye game”, a great ice breaker and way to make contact, where participants swap places with anyone with whom they make eye contact. The group mixed even more when we played “Walk the room,” in which everybody agrees or disagrees with general statements by walking to a designated side of the room.
Of course, as usual, we sat down to discuss all of this fun, as sharing experiences is what it’s all about.
Later Everyone received large strips of paper and magazines and created storyboards to share their personal narratives with each other through the art of pictures, just as they will build storyboards for the films they will create together this year. It was such a great feeling in the room, and the storyboards looked fantastic. Everyone took their own unique approach, and the result was an inspiring collection of creatively expressed tales.
Sharing Narratives – ACTV Video Youth Group @ The Jerusalem International YMCA
Here’s what some of the youth had to say about their day!
Andre and Haley: We enjoyed the “Walk the room” activity. We discovered that we are the only ones in the group who believe there is life on other planets!”
Zayn: I did the Leadership program last year, and it was a lot of fun. It’s exciting to see some of my classmates who are new to the Youth Programs at the YMCA be so excited. No one is shy tonight!”
The ACTV Video Youth program has now entered it’s 4th year, bringing together teens from all over East and West Jerusalem to learn how to direct, film and edit their own amazing movies, sharing experiences and creating new narratives together.
The group is facilitated by Khaled Rishek and Asaf Shahar of the YMCA Youth Department
