THE YMCA JERUSALEM YOUTH CHORUS TO MAKE NETWORK DEBUT ON THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT ON SEPTEMBER 24

September 22, 2015 – The YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus will be performing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday, September 24. The Chorus, which includes Jewish, Muslim and Christian students, is thrilled to make their network debut as musical guests during the first highly anticipated month of this show.

The Late Show performance follows the extraordinary success of the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus’s June 2015 US Tour with stops in New Haven, Boston, New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. In addition to The Late Show, they have been invited back to New York and New Haven for performances surrounding the International Day of Peace on September 21, Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha on September 23, and Family Weekend at Yale September 25-27.  Highlights include a meditation in Central Park and appearance on Huffington Post Live with Deepak Chopra on September 21 as well as performances with the Yale Glee Club and Yale Whiffenpoofs on September 25 & 26 in New Haven.
The YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus, an ensemble of high school students from East and West Jerusalem, includes both Palestinian and Israeli singers, who through music and dialogue, are able to see beyond their differences and conflicts and work together for peace in their community and beyond. PBS’s Religion & Ethics recently featured their unique and inspiring story as did the The New York Times.

THE CHORUS’S RETURN TRIP TO THE U.S. ALSO INCLUDES HIGH-PROFILE PERFORMANCES SURROUNDING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE AND EVENTS OF FAITH SEPTEMBER 20-27

Founded and directed by Micah Hendler, a graduate of Yale, with the goal of using collective music-making to create community and foster shared identity, the group use their live performances to inspire people to work for peace. Hendler explains, “The YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus combines my passions for youth singing and Middle East peacemaking in a creative approach to conflict transformation that I believe can have a significant impact.”
