THE YMCA JERUSALEM YOUTH CHORUS TO MAKE NETWORK DEBUT ON THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT ON SEPTEMBER 24
September 22, 2015 – The YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus will be performing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday, September 24. The Chorus, which includes Jewish, Muslim and Christian students, is thrilled to make their network debut as musical guests during the first highly anticipated month of this show.
The Late Show performance follows the extraordinary success of the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus’s June 2015 US Tour
with stops in New Haven, Boston, New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. In addition to The Late Show, they have been invited back to New York and New Haven for performances surrounding the International Day of Peace on September 21, Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha on September 23, and Family Weekend at Yale September 25-27. Highlights include a meditation in Central Park and appearance on Huffington Post Live
with Deepak Chopra on September 21 as well as performances with the Yale Glee Club and Yale Whiffenpoofs on September 25 & 26 in New Haven.
The YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus, an ensemble of high school students from East and West Jerusalem, includes both Palestinian and Israeli singers, who through music and dialogue, are able to see beyond their differences and conflicts and work together for peace in their community and beyond. Founded and directed by Micah Hendler, a graduate of Yale, with the goal of using collective music-making to create community and foster shared identity, the group use their live performances to inspire people to work for peace. Hendler explains, “The YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus combines my passions for youth singing and Middle East peacemaking in a creative approach to conflict transformation that I believe can have a significant impact.”

Founded in 2012, the YMCA Jerusalem Youth Chorus creates a space for high school students from East and West Jerusalem to grow together in both song and dialogue. Through the co-creation of music and the sharing of stories, the chorus empowers these youth to become leaders in their communities and inspire singers and listeners around the world to work for peace. Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on September 8, 2015.
